1995-2000

These works reflect upon the experience of the Wilderness Women in Black series of site-specific interventions. Installations include the seven black hooded cloaks worn by women in clear-cuts, under hydro lines, in huge monoculture plantations; the materials that were brought to each site; the photos of the actions. These installations deliver a message which is both emotional and political. There is an ominous presence, invoking not only the conventions of mourning and ceremonial grief, but also rituals impregnated with the dark powers of the ascetic.
